On August 26, 2020, the SEC published its final rule to expand the definition of an “accredited investor” to include natural persons who have demonstrated certain levels of financial sophistication. In addition to the above accreditation thresholds, the final rule now expands the “accredited investor” definition to include natural persons who maintain the following designations administered by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. (“FINRA”):
- Licensed General Securities Representative (Series 7)
- Licensed Investment Adviser Representative (Series 65)
- Licensed Private Securities Offerings Representative (Series 82)
These changes went into effect on December 8, 2020.
Find your CRD Number
To determine financial sophistication via an SEC-approved license, we’ll just need to know your Central Registration Depository (“CRD”) number. This can be found by reviewing your listing at FINRA’s BrokerCheck.
Please be sure to provide your individual CRD number, not the CRD number of any associated firm. In the example listing below, the individual CRD number is inside the red box.
